Immigration Service Urges Applicants to Collect 107,646 Unclaimed Passports Nationwide

The Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, has urged passport applicants to pick up their completed passports from various issuing centers nationwide.

Nandap highlighted that 107,646 passports are currently uncollected, despite numerous efforts to reach their owners.

In a statement released on Friday and signed by NIS Spokesperson Kenneth Udo, the Comptroller General advised applicants to provide accurate and verifiable addresses and phone numbers on their online passport application forms. This measure is essential to ensure applicants can be easily contacted in the future, thereby preventing similar issues and facilitating timely communication.

“The CGIS mentioned that there are 107,646 passports ready for collection, but attempts to contact the owners have been unsuccessful.

“Applicants are therefore strongly encouraged to always provide verifiable addresses and phone numbers on their online passport application forms to ensure easy contact,” part of the statement read.

To make the collection process more convenient, “all Passport Offices in Lagos will now be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., exclusively for the collection of completed passports. Applicants are urged to take advantage of this extended service,” the statement added.
